In 2015, the Office of the Prime Minister in Uganda contracted TASS to commission, supply and install solar systems in 54 Acholi chiefs’ houses. There was a vast array of chiefs, including the head of the Acholi chiefs, H. H David Onen Acaca II.
Although solar energy is on the rise, it is still not yet a widely used and understood source of energy for many rural communities. The impact of this initiative for TASS and for renewable energy in general is monumental because of the reach that this project can have into the local community. When community leaders, chiefs, for example, use renewable sources of energy such as solar, it creates a greater market awareness than any marketing campaign could manage. Word-of-mouth is one of the most effective forms of advertising and having political, cultural and thought leaders adopt this innovative technology increases product adoption and on a larger scale, reduces the use of harmful and non-renewable sources of energy.
TASS’s work with the chiefs shows the company’s connectedness to the community and our ability to handle such a personal project with the sensitivity and awareness needed for its success.
